I just dropped my 580ex II on a rock instead of sands :( during a beach engagement.

I thought it's only the hot shoe mount that's broken, but upon further inspection, the flash tube is broken.

1. Does anybody know how much to fix both the flash tube and hot shoe mount from Canon?

2. Does anybody know the best place to purchase these parts if I want to DIY?
What is the part number for both hot shoe mount and flash tube?

Thanks

http://www.uscamera.com/cy2-4220.htm (external link)
might be some help

for flash tube:

Don't seem too spendy, less than $100 it looks like

EDIT: looks like that flash tube in that thread is for older 580ex

but ran across this for yours:

Mine is fine, for now. But I appreciate the repair manual. Nice to have just in case.

Thanks guys, these are very useful.

Do anyone know how much canon would charge to fix both of these?

Thanks

Canon charges a minimum flat fee of $110 to repair a 580EX. I was charged that amount to fix my flash when I tried NiZn batteries in it. The gentleman told me if the problem is serious and it requires expensive parts, then it will be more.
Also cost of shipping is about $10 to 15 bucks when they send back. If you are close to Irvine, just drop buy thier repair center.

I used the NiZn for the first time at a school play. Flash worked great until.. I shot a 3 sequence and it stopped working right afterwards. took out the batteries and they were really really hot. I called up NiZn company and their customer tech lady said they had a quite a few of these canon 580ex burning out and will issue a warning on thier web site not to use it on the 580ex. They reimbursed me for the repairs.

Hmmm, I will be carefull. I have 16 of the damn things.. they do get warm and they do put out a true 1.5 volts, where as most are 1.2 for a 1.5v batt.

I have the EX II's, so I'll keep my fingers crossed.

thx for the info

R

I actually ordered the parts from uscamera.com
Received the package within 1 working day using priority mail.

I got everything installed thanks to Mike for the repair manual.

It's working perfectly now.
