Unfortunately the vinyl adhesive does not do well in the heat of direct sunlight. I have since removed it from the 70-200 hood. It is still on the 24-70 because I rarely use it out in the sun.

I think it's cool, who cares what everyone thinks!!!

Interesting, I had understood that many people use this material on cars, like on hoods, trunk decks, spoilers and the like. I'm surprised you had problems with heat from sunlight.

The lens hood probably wasn't cleaned properly and had a lot of oil residue from fingerprints or something similar.

If it was solid CF, to provide a combination of light weight and strength, I'd be interested - provided the cost did not make my eyes water. Appliqué vinyl for cosmetic reasons, not so much. YMMV

Finally got around to applying some. I have a cut down EW-83D II that I use on a 17-40/4. So a little more moding wouldn't hurt. It was a bit hard, but fun in the end.
