This relatively unknown area in Northwest New Mexico is one of the most spectacular and rugged parcels of land I have ever seen. My first visit there was in 2009. I had plans to return in 2010, but weather at the time I was in the area forced me to back out. Even this trip, rain and cold delayed me for several days. In the end, I spent a full week in the area and made several long hikes into the wilderness. Here is but one of several hundred shots, and a link to see a few others if you care to.

Nice pics of New Mexico. I checked your whole gallery, nicely laid out. You've been around, hope to be doing the same starting next year.

Definitely looks like an unforgiving place when the weather rolls in. You planning to go back?

Appreciate it, Gordon. You must get out there often. I was staying in Farmington, almost 37 miles away. Had planned to park the motor home on site, but weather changed that.

Thanks, Marcy. Tent Rocks is OK, but not in the same league as Bisti.

Thanks, Bruce. I wondered if you have been to Bisti. I will enjoy talking about it, and other places in NM.

Thanks, Julian. The soil here becomes very slick when wet, making it treacherous to walk. As for planning to return, I'd love to, but would be reluctant to bring it up right now.

Thanks, Marcy. We wanted to dry camp at Bisti (large parking area), but the wet weather discouraged that idea. My goal was to be able to go out early and late to get good light. However, we stayed in Farmington, about 35 miles away, at Mom & Pop's RV Park. Nothing special, and only 30 amp electric, but it was good enough for our purposes. Farmington is a good-sized town with all we needed.

Stan, I only see 36 states in your Pbase folder. You need to get a move on it and finish the other states. ;)

I really enjoy your photos, it must have been a lot of fun visiting all of those locations...How long has this process been going on for you?

My Wife and I are starting a series of trips next summer, visiting 5-6 states/year via car. Me photographing, she will do everything else. :D She has already planned our first stage, with locations, motels, routes and stops.

just a few of my thoughts...
Pierre

Thanks, Pierre. We started traveling by RV in 1977, have been in all states (not by RV in Hawaii), some many times, and all Canadian provinces. Our travel really took off when I retired in 1995. A lot of the states were done with film camera, thus they aren't in my gallery.

Good luck with your travel.

Wow Stan, what a great looking place. I checked through the whole gallery, some really strange formations and some great shots too. Would make a great location for a sci-fi movie.
