My Dad lives in Lancaster and we have been trying for 5 years to get up there while the poppies are blooming and actually have the time to see them.

Possibly any local county park, but I'd also say I've seen some really cool stuff off of Blackstar Canyon Rd (up road) in the Santa Ana mountains recently.

(If you look up places to hike in LA, a majority of them are quite nice)
Personally I use modernhiker.com to find cool hiking locations/landscape areas in the LA area. It even categorizes the locations by difficulty so you can find some green (easy) spots to have a model go with you for a landscape portrait!

One of my favorite shots. Wasn't that taken from your sun roof? Was this an HDR? If so, how did you do it hand held?
