I wouldn't buy any of the telephoto zoom's that aren't L's.

I would save it for the f4 IS.
I think that the longer the zoom is, the more the IQ drops.

best advice is don't buy something you don't really want.
the hard part is discerning what you want from need.

as everyone else, definitely save up. you just won't be happen with a lens that substitutes, especially since you not what you want specifically.

Without a doubt, save for the f4 IS. You'll be happier with the build and IQ.
