Lenses can simply be refurb, because they were taken out of the box and the customer returned it w/ no explanation.

I picked up a refurb 5d2 + 28-105 for £1850 on ebay. It had been returned due to "very bad front focus", I guess canon fixed it because the focus seems about perfect to me.

It's a gamble but unlike a new one it has been inspected by an engineer and there's typically a short warranty too, so if it's DOA you can get it sorted.

I prefer to buy "refurb" over "used" because canon individually inspects all lenses that are sold as refurbished. They go through a much more rigorous process to insure good working order (such as focusing properly) before being resold. For that reason I actually prefer to buy refurbished over new at canon...

Buying used, you are taking some random person's word that the lens is working well, and you have almost no recourse if it doesn't.

My opinion: If it's in stock at canon as a refurb, BUY IT! (especially the 24-70 because they go quickly!)

I wish my state doesn't have tax! Not a good deal for me to buy refurb thanks to 9.75% tax

after tax and shipping 50L is 1434 with Ca tax...the one you linked to still has 9 months left on warranty...and it's cheaper...

i didn't bother with the other ones trying to get the tax...but it would probably be pretty close...the last one you linked to was bought a month ago...so you're talking 11 months left on warranty...

now do you see a reason to go refurbished for 90 day warranty, when the others offer you more?

it'd be different if the lenses weren't under warranty still...in that case though, i'd expect the prices to be lower

If you read the canon warranty it states:

THIS LIMITED WARRANTY SHALL NOT EXTEND TO ANYONE OTHER THAN THE ORIGINAL PURCHASER OF THE PRODUCT

And not all states have ridiculous 10% tax like california... Time to make some friends in oregon.

where'd you find that?...i googled till the cows came home, and couldn't find anything on canons site...mostly what i found was people saying that as long as they had the original receipt canon didn't care if they were the original owners or not

I purchased refurbished lens from Canon and I really can not tell the difference between the new except it does not come with the box.

Shuu...let people buy used and leave the refurbished alone! They are out of stock quick enough already!
