On the chart above, there is a center peak at 4, but there is a blank spot in the data between 4.5 and 5.0. It seems very possible that one of those apertures have higher center sharpness. You don't have to give me exact numbers. I'm just looking for the aperture at which center sharpness is highest.

Thanks for your time!

The difference is so small and there are so many variables that it's pointless to break it down past full stops. Even the same model lens will have variances from example to example.

And edit for extra comment: The edges get sharper as you go from f/4 to f/5.6 even though the center goes down, so there really isn't a true "best" aperture because it depends on the situation.

I know. I'm looking for the best center sharpness for special needs that I need to fulfill to the best of my ability using this lens that relies on center sharpness. 8 D

put the lens on your camera...put your camera on your tripod...get a soda/beer can...aim at the can...change the aperture...then review all the 100% crops....

sounds like a blast :)...but it'll tell you what you want to know with your specific lens...

The little differences in a test chart are pretty much impossible to see in real life. Just go shoot.

I haven't tested it across a ton of apertures, but I do have one f/5.6 shot on my Sigma 30 that has incredible center sharpness. Everything is so clear and perfect I feel as if my monitor is a window and I'm looking at the real thing.
