....so what are your thoughts on using a rechargeable battery that is not a Canon battery? Is using a Rayovac battery alright to use as a 2nd backup battery?
Thanks

I've been alternating between it and the original canon battery since day one and never had an issue with it. Would never know which battery is in the camera at any given time, they seem to work just the same.

No idea what brand mine are, but some 3rd party batteries I have read people get better results than canon. So there is no issue in picking up 3rd party batteries as a spare. 40D Gripped | Sigma 10-20mm f/4-5.6 | Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 OS | Canon 50mm f/1.8 II | Canon 35-105mm f/4.5-5.6 | Feedback | flickr

The problem with it is when you put it in the camera body it tends to be to large, and it gets jammed in there. I am dealing with apple autocorrect. Excuse my spelling/random words.

May 10, 2011 01:31 | #9 I picked up a Lenmar battery for my 1DII because a Canon one would have cost over $100, and this only cost me $30. No troubles at all with it, and it holds its charge for quite a long time. α7R IV | Σ 24-70 f/2.8 | Σ 150-600 f/5-6.3 | Σ 14-24 f/2.8 | 1D MkIII | 430EX II | 24-70 f/2.8L | 70-200mm f/2.8L IS

Eneloops are a different mixture for the battery that doesn't discharge over time like traditional Ni-MH batteries (they hold a viable charge for about 2 years after being fully charged) and they also discharge more efficiently and rapidly, refilling the flash capacitors more quickly and allowing you to get more shots off. Doubly important with E-TTL flashes as they all fire twice for every picture. Cameras: 7D2, S100

May 10, 2011 07:55 | #15 I've been using a Sterlingtek BP-511A along with the OEM Canon BP-511A in my 40D since I first bought it. I will probably steer clear of anything other than Canon brand LP-E4's for the 1D3 though. the Sterlingtek has been rock solid and reliable in the 40D though.
