Use a smaller memory card. I use a 512MB card to do my firmware flashes. Put the firmware file in the root of the flash card.

I use 32GB cards in my 7D and 5D2 and an 8GB card in my 1D3. I copy the .FIR file direct to the card with a card reader, pop the card in the camera and follow the menu prompts in the camera. I've never had an issue flashing firmware to any of my cameras with those cards.

Jaocobs Digital in London told me that the Canon 1D Mkii can be updated with the 1D MkiiN firmware to basically make the only difference between the two cameras the screen size.

Does anybody know if this is true?

Kind Regards

Phil

Why not to update with the specific firmware for your camera?

Even if the camera recognizes and accepts the firmware for another model to do the update process, I wouldn't take the risk. You are flashing ROM, so if something goes wrong your camera could get bricked and will need a tech service to reflash the ROM.

Cheers.

I think the 7D link on the OP is broken.

Phil.
