Ok. Well I like to use the lowest ISO possible, and I worry about handshake!

So even in low light you didnt need VC,

I don't know what people shoot in low light, but for me it is usually night landscapes or city shots, or else people. For the night landscapes, Image stabilization is still not good enough as I am often in the 1/2-10 second range which is too much for it to handle. So I use a tripod. For people shots, you need 1/80 to prevent their motion blur, and IS can't hold a person still. 1/80 is outside of where IS benefits you for a standard zoom (say 55mm or less). So the only time IS really helps on a standard zoom is for subjects and light where 1/6-1/60 shutter speeds are safe. That's just not very many subjects.

And I will also add that Noise ALWAYS looks better than handshake blur. Without exception. A noisy shot is just noisy, but a blurred shot is trash.

Hi guys.

I currently have an XTi , and I want to switch to a 7D + 15-85 IS very soon, and keep my XTi + 50mm F/1.8 as a backup. However I've read that the IQ is almost the same; is this true ? Thanks!

P.S: I don't like my XTi at 800 or 1600 ISO. At all.

Edit: Thanks for taking the time to read me and thanks for the help!

Well, I first bought the XTi, then the 50D and recently the 7D and, sure enough, I use them all. What I do is to carry in my bag every camera with a given lens attached (for instance, right now the XTi has the Tamron 28-75 f2.8, the 50D the EF100L f2.8 and the 7D the EF70-200 f4 L IS). This arrangement works for me.

Regarding IQ, They are all, at normal sizes and equivalent shooting conditions, very good.

Your first option should be glass over camera. If not, by the types of photography you mention I would go with a 5D Classic + 24-105L IS lens. You would have the high ISO capabilities of a 7D + a killer walk around lens.

I'd take a strong look at this option if you're looking for a big gain in high ISO performance without spending a lot for brand new technology that you may not need. You can buy a used 5D body for $850-1000 and if you decide it doesn't do what you expect you could sell it at little to no loss.

If you do go with a used 5D, you won't be able to use EF-S lenses so I'd recommend starting with a Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8 zoom which can be found used for $300-350. The Canon 24-105L is also a good option but costs $850 or more used.

This has always been my position. All the IS in the world isn't going to hold my 9-month old still. I need speed and that's why I have my 50/1.4.

Hi guys. Thanks for all the suggestions :)

I'm back from the camera store ! They didnt have alot of lens, didnt have the Tamron 17-50 F2.8 VC. She told me the camera was good at high iso and i have a tripod, so I went with that:

The lens is a demo they received this week.

The pics of the compressed air can look pretty sharp to me - considering you were hand holding at 1/30 second (assuming you weren't using a tripod).
