Overexposed Skin ?

I took some prom pics for family friends over the weekend but am having trouble with overexposed skin. An example is pictures on the girls front shoulder area. What can I do with either Lightroom or Elements to correct this?

If you are shooting in RAW, you should be able to reduce Exposure and get a lot of the blown out highlights back. Hold ALT and drag exposure to the left to see how far you need to go to eliminate the overexposed areas. Usually after that, I hold ALT and adjust Blacks to do the same thing, except with the shadow areas.

Yes, shooting in RAW would really help. You could also drag the recovery tab.

If that fails, you can also create a layer above the main layer and use a very soft low opacity/flow brush to paint the over exposed areas of the skin. You may want to add a little noise the new layer as well.

pay attention to your pic, the skins of your two friends are quite different. if you wanna make the whole pic Correct exposure, try to use faster shutter speed while you must accept an other fact that the skin of the boy will be darker(if you don't mind, ladies first). And if you wanna just change the girl's exposure, select the area of her skin and adjust it all alone by PS. but the result of this may be not natural.
