So with senior year of high school in full swing, I haven't had much time for forums and whatnot so I figured I'd do a quick catch up and post what I've been up to for the past month or so photographically.

So my 365 has been rolling along pretty solid. I decided about a month ago that I was really going to start challenging myself to improve, both with my post process and my composition/lighting/framing, etc and it has definitely paid off. I don't think I have ever learned so much over such a short period of time.

As always, your feedback is more than welcome! I have learned so much from you guys already and I am eager to learn more. Also, if you're on Flickr, add me as a contact! (external link) I love getting new styles and photos popping up.

I guess I'll just go ahead and dive in. Sorry in advance for the lengthy post. It's going to be pretty picture heavy. I've got a month to catch up on hahaha.

I started to branch out a bit and really try to shoot different genres of portraits so that I can demonstrate that I'm pretty well rounded and it has definitely paid off.

I got out to shoot with my friend Hannah. This shoot really made me realize how much photography has changed my outlook on life and the world in general. I have realized now that everywhere I go, I am always sizing up the location I'm at, seeing how I would frame a subject in my surroundings, etc and it also made me notice how much better I have managed to get at fooling the viewer into thinking that location is a way that it isn't. Anyways, here are a couple from that shoot.

My model cancelled on me so I took a self portrait that day but Tuesday I went out and had a senior portrait session with the absolutely gorgeous Amanda. The location was insanely rad and I am really happy with how all the photos turned out.

I didn't have much time to shoot on this day because I had studying and whatnot to do and just didn't get around to shooting until kind of late in the evening. My sister had been out following up on job applications so when I picked her up, the sun was going to set in about 20 minutes or so. So anyways, we rushed home, grabbed my camera and cruised down the street to a location I've been eyeing for a while. Shot like 30 frames and called it a night.

Exif was:

Canon 50mm f/1.4 @ 1.6

Easter Sunday I had a very very brief shoot with my friend Vanessa who lives down the street from me. We only shot for like 10 minutes because, well, it was Easter Sunday haha. Anyways, I managed to pull two shots out of this shoot (maybe 25 frames). For all my Flickrites out there, the black and white one got Explored : ) My third appearance in Explore ever : )

For the first shot, I wanted to create cool bokeh and really put focus on her eyes because they are absolutely gorgeous! She won the yearbook senior superlative award for Best Eyes for my senior class this year. Definitely deserved it. The second shot I tried to give it a vintage fashion look to it with the semi awkward head tilt and whatnot. I wasn't too stoked on it at first but eventually it grew on me.

Exif:
Canon 1D Mark IIn
Canon 50mm f/1.4 @ 2.0
1/800s

And finally, yesterday I had a very brief shoot with my friend Amanda. She is a total goober but definitely fun to hang out with and whatnot. This shoot got cut short by my very angry mother (forgot to call and tell her where I was going... woopsie hahah) so we ended this one after like 40 frames.

The shot itself is definitely my most complex composite image ever... I did the dumb thing and shot at an angle I didn't like and didn't shoot wide enough (I kicked myself so hard for that) so I ended up having to composite in parts from like 5 different photos to finally create my end product. In the end though, I was satisfied with what I created as it did blend nicely and I got the image I had envisioned.

I had a pretty interesting idea two weeks ago on Tuesday that pretty much came to me right on the spot. While me and my friend Xiang were out searching for a location to shoot for my project, we somehow came upon the idea of going and shooting photos inside Lowes right down the street from my house. A little unconventional and probably not technically allowed but whatever... We went and rocked it. Xiang, being the absolutely gorgeous model that she is, worked it and we came out with some pretty sweet photo. I was actually pretty surprised all the interesting compositional elements that Lowes offered for photos. Anyways... Enough talk, here were the results:

The first photo was taken in the Lowes Garden Center. For my fellow Flickronians, this one got Explored at #3. I was pretty stoked on that because I've for sure never been so high up in Explore

The second photo was taken in the Refrigerator Aisle. The lines of the refrigerators provided some interesting composition. The lighting for the photo was provided by the light from inside a refrigerator across the aisle. Gotta make due with what you got right?

The last photo that I posted from this shoot was from the Lumber Aisle. The leading lines in this aisle were definitely helpful for creating a strong composition. This shot got Explored at #186

The next day I shot with my friend Vanessa again. I didn't really have much time to shoot that day but we did manage to squeeze out one photo. I think we shot a grand total of like 20 minutes or so before I had to get back to my studies.

The next day was another super short shoot, this time with my friend Mikaela. I've shot with her before and she's trying to pursue modeling sometime down the road. The location we shot at was actually a sort of awkward location and I was stoked that we got some usable material. We ended up shooting on the corner of one of the busiest intersections in the city so it was a little weird shoot with dozens of cars driving by.

The first photo was shot in a field out by my house but the second was shot on the corner

The next day, I met up with my favorite car photographer of all time, Dylan Leff, and he taught me how to shoot cars the right way. I'm sooo stoked on knowing how to do this stuff and I will DEFINITELY be shooting cars a LOT more often now. It is actually a ton of fun to do. Not going to lie, I hadn't had that much fun shooting photos in weeks.

Almost there! hahaha

This is a photo that I have been wanting to do for a while but have been seriously limited by my gear. So instead of letting my gear hold me back, I borrowed my friend's point and shoot and made this crap work. I think it turned out pretty sick for a first attempt at this style of photography.

I didn't have any shoots lined up so I got to do a shot that I have had in mind for months now. I have been trying more and more to use both layered lighting and lines to create both depth and strong compositions. I am pretty stoked on how this photo came out and this is definitely one of my favorite black and whites that I have done.

Shot a pretty silly music video for my sister and a couple of her friends for a history project today. While I was shooting it, I got an idea for an angle and a shot so I decided I'd try to make it happen so I whipped out the good ol' point and shoot (Jack needz wide angle) and went at it. Disneyland Gradnite was the next day so I didn't spend too much time. Had to get muh sleep!

Some nice work here, for sure, but way too much to go through.

Not to rain on your parade, but this isn't supposed to be a personal blog. Post a few images (up to 8)and link to the rest, per forum rules, before a mod does it for you.

I always prefer reading through one continuous thread than 13 different threads by the same person..now if he was asking for critique on all these shots i'd be a little pissed off  Some very good shots in here with some very attractive women! Funny that your mom seems to get in the way of your photography tho? I would like to see more car photography as it looks like they're for sure going in the right direction!

And if it helps, i'll put up that i have requested more photos (so you can have more than 8 posted per initial thread post)

Yeah I wasn't looking for individual responses to each image. I was just posting a series of progress in my photographic skills so that what I have done is up to date with what I have posted and then I figure I will just go from there.
