Looking for places i can take pictures of my friend laying down near some flowers, nice green grass, blooming trees. Trying to make this an all day event, so i am willing to drive oh so far for some .. what i hope to call .. good shots. I know theres the Aboretum in Arcadia, but that's kind of too far for me. Anyone take shots at the James Irvine Japanese Garden in Downtime little tokyo ???

Take it to Descanso Gardens, Huntington Library. If you're in Irvine, take it to Laguna Niguel. You'll get some nice photos of the wildlife reserve beach and all the creatures there.
There's just soooo much stuff to do with 35L :))) I'd do street photography, since you're on a kit. That would make it a nice 50mm prime on a FF
