^ Sorry to hear that! It's good that you got to test it before buying. Hope you will be able to find a good one.

I took a few flower shots with mine today. This one could be sharper, but it's because of strong winds and not the lens.

I tried a used one out on my 5D at a local camera place and it was soft soft soft =/
so, no luck for me as of yet.

were you using the LCD to determine if it was sharp or not? if so try uploading the photos and looking at them on a real screen.

you haven't taken many lenses apart, eh?

Well no, now that you mention it, I have not.

Are you saying that is what was used on this lens?

the tamron 28-75? not sure, as i don't own one (yet).

multiple older canon EOS lenses, yes.

keep in mind to disassemble many lenses generally requires removing rubber grips to get at hidden screws--mucking around with a liquid or gel type adhesive is not something i'd want to do to get things back together, which i imagine is why they use something easily positionable (and dry).

Thank you Sandra! :) It was a pleasant surprise to find how close it can focus even at 75mm. I'll try it with my extension tubes some time.

Interesting thought and great advise. Right now it is not that big of a deal, but it will be here in Texas soon as 100 degree temps are to be here shortly. This really becomes an issue when it is too warm.
