Best for what?

Of course the best dslr is 1ds3 for ff and 1d4 for crop, but I think the best value for the money is 5dII and that get's my vote.

Not if you are trekking 20 miles a day with it.

Of course it's the 450D and 60D. Any other choice shows, well, a lack of refinement.

I love both my Rebel and the 60D. Are they the best? Who knows? They do however each represent a good value. I'd recommend either of them for someone who needs what these two offer.

This is pretty pointless. If there was a single best camera for everyone they would only make one.

For what I do the best is a Nikon D3s--anyone have a line on a Nikon to EF adapter?

I have no choice but to comment... Can't vote because there is no single "best" Canon DSLR.

You dont use a sledge hammer to pound in tacks and would probably not want to drive in a railroad spike with a tack hammer. The right tool for the job. That applies to DSLRs, too.

If I were climbing Mt. Everest, I sure wouldn't want to lug around a 1D series. Probably the lightest of the Rebel series would be my choice.

When I've got a grand scene before me I'd like to shoot, I'd want a full frame model such as the 5DII to capture all the detail possible, and the potential to make a huge print from the image. Due to it's high ISO performance, it would be my choice for low light shooting, too. For the grand scene, a 1Ds III would be nice, too, if I didn't have to carry it too far or had an assistant who carried it for me. But it's got quite limited high ISO compared to the 5DII, so wouldn't be as useful in low light.

But if I'm trying to photograph fast moving sports, elusive wildlife, I'd more likely want a 7D or 1D IV. 60D wouldn't be bad either. 50D is also quite good.

Best all-arounder? Probably the 60D. It compromises in some respects, but seems to me would be the most versatile Canon, at present.

Of course, budget can be another big consideration, dictating "what's best". Then one of the cheaper Rebels would be fine.... Especially if it allowed for upgraded lenses (which will nearly always have much more effect on image results, than the choice of camera body.)

So the above is nothing more than a "fanboy" poll... All it answers is "this is my favorite camera" (probably usually translated as "the one I bought most recently"). That doesn't make it "best" for anyone else, by any means. Heck, it might even be "worst" for some! We all have different needs, uses and expectations.

The right answer is: "The DSLR you have with you when you need one."

I voted for the 450D as I just acquired on recently and its the only DSLR I have ever owned. Learning on it every day!!
