PC or Mac?

If Mac I love MPEG Streamclip to convert my videos to a codec that FCP works with (ProRes LT).

It will also turn it into pretty much anything else you'll want.

MPEG Streamclip is PC and Mac, also the best free converter out there.

I use Corel Video Studio. Cheap and does the job.

If you are editing on FCP on a Mac, just use a Compressor Droplet to go to ProRes 422 LT. That is my workflow.

also, if you are having trouble viewing them too you may want to look into either VLC player or, unfortunately, a faster computer.
