I was given a Manfrotto tripod system consisting of a 3126 fluid head and set of 055 legs. I wanted to swap the fluid head with a standard ball head but removing the 3126 has been a challenge. I've tried searching for online manuals or directions but seem to have drawn a blank. Does anybody have any clues/insights/links on how to remove the head from the tripod?

Canon Bodies: Canon 7D (x2), Canon 40D, Canon T2i
Canon Zoom Lenses: EF-S 18-75 IS USM, EF 24-70 f/2.8L USM, EF 24-105 f/4L IS USM, EF 70-200 f/4L USM, EF 70-200 f/2.8L IS II USM, EF 80-200 f/2.8L, EF 100-400 f/4.5-5.6L IS USM
Canon Prime Lenses: EF 28 f/1.8 USM, EF 50f/1.4 USM, EF 50 f/1.8 II, EF 85 f/1.8 USM, EF 200 f/2.8L II USM

Stupid question -- did you screw it on with the three set screws?

As mentioned above - go underneath the head mounting platform (the top of the center column) and loosen (or even remove) the three setscrews that are inserted from the bottom of the platform. Then you can unscrew the head.

You'll probably have to tighten the pan lock on the head fairly tight to get the head to come loose.

Thank you! That did the trick. It didn't occur to me to look under the platform for set screws.

Good advice as well. I did have to tighten the lock to get the head to come loose.

Now that I have everything apart, I can see how everything works but it was definitely causing me to scratch my head before.
