If you want an UWA for a crop body the 10-22 is the way to go. If you want a walk around that is semi wide on a crop body and don't use the 10-16 range the 17-40 is what you want. I never understand how people think they are interchangeable.

The 10-22 is definitely wider, the difference going from 17mm to 10mm on my crop is very big. I took a real close up of my dog and his face was elongated drastically, kinda fun actually. Very wide. I knew I was going for the UWA, so I really like the 10-22, fun lens! Canon 60D | 50mm f/1.8 | 10-22mm f/3.5-4.5 | 70-200mm f/4L

Like Jim said, up close the fisheye distortion is very evident... But, pulling back it smooths out and looks much better. Two very different animals, both equally capable in their respective focal ranges. A guy with a couple cameras, some lenses, and accoutrements

This lens is amazing. One thing I don't know if anyone's mentioned yet (haven't read the entire thread) is that handholding it is a snap, even at long shutter speeds. This photo was taken at 1/8-second and is completely sharp. San Diego Architecture and Commercial Photographer
