just traded away my 17-40 f4/l for the 10-22mm. Can't wait to test it out on my 60D. =)

Having had both I would say they are two very differnent lenses. If you want an UWA for a crop body the 10-22 is the way to go. If you want a walk around that is semi wide on a crop body and don't use the 10-16 range the 17-40 is what you want. I never understand how people think they are interchangeable.

yeah, some quick first impression... 17-40 with the wider zoom range feels more like a general walk around lens. The 10-22 is definitely wider, the difference going from 17mm to 10mm on my crop is very big. I took a real close up of my dog and his face was elongated drastically, kinda fun actually. Very wide. I knew I was going for the UWA, so I really like the 10-22, fun lens!

As an owner of both the 17-55 and the 10-22 (albeit more recent with the 10-22), there is a huge difference in 17 and 10mm. Like Jim said, up close the fisheye distortion is very evident... But, pulling back it smooths out and looks much better. Two very different animals, both equally capable in their respective focal ranges.

I've got to say...
The Canon 10-22 produces some of the best colors I have ever seen come out a lens.

Perfectly balanced in Green, Red, and Blue. Other lenses seem to lose one of those and blow out another one.

Too bad it isn't weather sealed with an L and red ring on there. Optically it is one of the best Canon has ever made.

This lens is amazing. One thing I don't know if anyone's mentioned yet (haven't read the entire thread) is that handholding it is a snap, even at long shutter speeds. This photo was taken at 1/8-second and is completely sharp.
