Forgetting flash card

This is why I wish Canon would include SOMETHING in camera. Even if it was just enough for 25 shots, at least you could be conservative/delete often and come back with some shots.

Anyway, I think you answered your own question. Just keep a cheap card in each car and camera bag you own.

The newer 1D series cameras have both CF and SD slots. I have an 8GB SD card in each of my bodies but I only shoot with the CF cards...so even if I forget to put in a CF card I always have the SD as backup. Then when I'm done I copy the contents of the SD to the CF so it never is removed from my cameras.

Canon could solve this problem by giving you 2 slots on the cam, maybe on the 5DIII?

I have the 4GB no brand no-name card that came with the camera in a Camera Bag pocket, because I WILL forget my other card at some point.

Agreed, at least 256mb to 512 mb on board memory would have been decent.

For me I choose not to forget.
Only way I know to achieve this is a simple rule. Only take card out of camera for uploading pics and put it straight back.
Don't look at a single photo until card is back in camera.

Tiny bit of discipline is 100% effective.

Yeah, they could have a setting to allow us to store shots in the continuous shot buffer. It wouldn't even cost Canon anything extra, since that's memory that they are already giving us, just a software change.

Just one of those things, or similar, that we've all done at some point. Whether it be forgetting a card, charged battery, forgetting to dial back 3200 iso from the last shoot, or zeroing EC. Just need to make a mental checklist for the basics. Do I have everything I need in order to shoot? Are my camera settings reasonable?

haha i've done this and was wondering why i was getting 1/8000 shutter speeds the next day

The worst is when you forget the battery... I did that once... now I have my no-name battery with 12v adapter living in my truck

I have a routine in place so things like this don't happen. I do it the same way every time so it's not really a process that requires thought anymore.

Ive done it myself but since getting a 1dmk11, i just leave an sd card in the 2nd slot.

Did this the other day. Drove 40 miles with my 500 mm in tow (traveled light), and didn't have my flash card in the camera, and no bag with my spare. The main card was in the card reader connected to the computer. I can top that. I had to shoot an executive portrait at the clients office last year. As I always do, I topped off both camera's batteries in the charger. I then drove 1 hour to the site. When I took my camera out of the bag to take a test shot - nothing. I left the batteries for BOTH cameras at home in the charger. Luckily I always carry an emergency Canon G11 (decent p&s camera) with me. It takes all the normal Canon flash accessories and I completed the shoot with it. The client looked somewhat surprised and I stated I'd reschedule a re-shoot if desired but they were happy with the results. It was the first and only time I had an equipment issue that prevented me performing normally. Live and learn.

When the cf slot is empty, I leave the "door" to that compartment open. The only time that "door" is closed is when there is a card in it. That method has been fool proof for me, as my camera only goes into my bag when there is a card in it, and if there is no card in it, it is easy to see that.

This is what I do too. If I remove the card I leave the door open. It has saved me on more than a few occasions. I've suffered the agony of an empty card slot before, but not since I started leaving the card slot door open.

I put a spare CF and SD card in the same pocket that has my money clip and pocket knife. I do not go anywhere without the knife or cash, so since I have yet to leave the house without my pants on I have a spare card!!!

I check the slot before I leave. I also check that it's been formatted. Before a big trip I verify all my images from the last trip are safely on at least two drives so I can format it. I wouldn't leave one in the car in the Texas heat for fear of it warping. Depends on where you live though.

This.

My problem isn't forgetting to bring the card with me, its forgetting to put the card in the camera... I heard a chinook flying by my window the other day, sprinted to my shelf and swapped lenses to my 55-250, ran back to the window, turned the camera on and started snapping away, would have been great, pressed the playback button, nothing. I'd forgotten to put my SD card in.
