can someone recommend resources, tutorials, sites, books, or share tips on taking better portraits using a single light (on or off camera, strobe or natural, bounce or reflectors, etc)? any help is much appreciated.

PS
I'm on a DIY/Entry level budget so I'm learning to make the most of minimal gear.

Zack Arias' Onelight DVD is great for just that.

Also check out Strobist (external link).

Type in "one light portrait" in youtubes search bar and you'll get some good results as well.

If I hadn't put a little light on the background, then this would be a single light with a reflector: Simple 2 Light Portrait Set-up
