I don't need 51 AF points either.

What about just nine at the RoT points? I don't understand the cramming of all points into the center of the frame.

I struggled with brand choice when deciding which way to go. The existence of a useful forum site and the 70-200 f/4 won in the end. Now the 135L, which I also don't have, resists a switch.

Sam. No real reason.
I'm fixing to look for an upgrade.
Several friends and family asked me why not just switch to Nikon.
And I figured I'd look into it. And try to come up with reasons to switch and reasons not to switch.

I did have several more lenses and three flashes.
Sold everything but what you read plus I kept the 430ex flash for now....

This is the post I made as to why I was ever thinking of a switch............

never said anything about not being a good photog

Things I have been told that sticks out in my head.
Nikon camera and Nikkor lenses are more affordable.
Nikon has face recognition. Nearly ever Nikkon lens I would use is VR.
Nikon has in camera editting. Nikon has better automatic exposure choices.

However as I have said I know nothing about Nikon.
So y'all tell me what you think and I will listen :)

I used a friends Nikon for a few days. Took me all of 45 minutes to get used to it. Same concept as canon but things are in a little different place.

Switch if you want to. It really makes little difference. Both are good brands if you know how to use them. The fundamentals of composition and light are the same no matter what brand you use.

Ain't nothin but a thing.

I would say keep Canon...I went from Nikon to Canon and the only thing that Nikon seemed to have Over canon was overall feel of the camera. To me, nikon felt really nice in the hands. I also really liked the warmness of the colors(but this might just be me or the specific cameras and what not that I have had). However, I love Canon's rotating dial on the back, as well as the ease of use and as marrietaphotog had said, the "creaminess".

Nikons do seem to produce warmer colors.

Why is that???

I love people instantly siding with Sigma. You guys have NO idea whether Sigma is guilty or not yet you are already claiming that Nikon are just being patent trolls. If they brought this up I'm sure they have a case. If Sigma did steal IP from Nikon they should pay. If they didn't then shame on Nikon. But there must be some level of similarity to have Nikon sue Sigma and not Tamron/Canon ETC.

This is exactly my thoughts on the matter...

Nikons do seem to produce warmer colors.

Why is that

Most likely just a difference in the default level of processing. We could take photos shot under identical situation with a Nikon and a Canon side by side, and post process them to look so similar that most folks could not tell them apart.

Then why do u want to switch?!

Yes, true.

Those 3 things ur XTI will shoot just fine. What do u think u need to upgrade for? More pixels? 10 megapixels were print very big if your technique and photo knowledge and composition skills are good.

Why? Kinda a sideways move stayin' at 10 megapixels. All u really will get is more fps (not needed for portraits or landscapes, and a camera body with more controls. I would save ur money and look for lenses instead.

Because my XTi is close to dead....I have used it sooo much.
I'm not exactly pixel obsessed. I only print up to 8x10, and sometimes order 11x14s.
The 40D might be close to the same but its a much better camera than the XTi.
Plus it's rather cheap right now, so I can also afford some more glass and other equipment.

Have you looked into the Canon Loyalty Program (CLP) for a refurbished 50d?

Let me say this Canon or Nikon if you on one or the other it does not matter. IMHO it is the person behind the Camera not the equipment. If you do not own either one that is the time for making your choice. Once you have done so never look back go ahead and develope your skill level.

As for my family here in the mainland suggesting that I switch...
I believe it's bc my aunt in Hawaii recently got a Nikon D60 (about a year ago), and every one else here is going gaga over the photos...

Which I wont lie. They are beautiful. And the woman knows nothing about her camera really. But consider that she lives in Oahu, Hawaii so she has plenty of beautiful things and landscapes to shoot! LOL

So take your Canon gear, move to Hawaii, and your family will rave about your photo's and your choice of Canon over Nikon.

Okay, let's see you take decent shots of my 2.5 year old son indoors with my G6.
