75-300 IS vs. 55-250 IS

So I got a older 75-300 IS a few months ago for $100 bucks and have just found a 55-250 IS for the same price. I've heard the older 75-300 IS is pretty comparable to the 55-250 but would like the extra IQ. So, do I buy the 250 or just keep saving money for my wide angle?

I haven't used the 70-300 myself, but I have a 55-250IS right now, some people get good shots with it.. ive had mine for almost 2 years and i've yet to be impressed with it, I don't know if it's the lens, or me not fairing well at long range shots, but once i decide on a different lens i'm selling my 250.

This is my opinion with one lens, but i thought i'd throw it out there anyway, others will have to chime in more.

The 55-250 has better IQ than the old 75-300 IS. The newer version 70-300 IS is better in some areas than the 55-250 The 55-250 is a great value and at $100 it's a steal if you don't have that range. But I'm not sure it's worth upgrading between any of these.

you could always try the tamron 70-300 with VC... 400 bucks AR and a nice jump in IQ.

Get the 55-250. While the 75-300 IS is the best of the 75-300s, that's not saying a lot. The 55-250 will give you better image quality, better IS, and (guessing here) will weigh less.

Agreed, the 55-250 is a better buy (and a steal at $100)

I've had mine for a couple years and just recently stopped using it with the purchase of my 70-300L. The image quality for the cost of the lens is fantastic! Here are two examples of my results:
