The owner of TexasPhotoForum.com and CaliforniaPhotoForum.com has decided to join the big boys by merging both forums into to a newly branded, non-regional forum.

http://www.Pixtus.com (external link) "Your complete online photography resource."

What do you think...

Was it wise to abandon the regional forums?
Is there room at the top for another broad-based online photo forum?
Other thoughts?

Well, how successful were they as regional forums? I've joined a couple forums in this region that have had a bit of activity, but POTN has for me been a much more actively rewarding place.

I think POTN is such a great community that I rarely look anywhere else.

The TexasPhotoForum.com was extremely active and successful. The CaliforniaPhotoForum.com not so much (or so I've heard.)

I joined the Texas forum precisely because it was a dedicated regional forum. Of course anyone was welcome, but the bulk of the activity was by, from, and for shooters in the Texas region. This was especially helpful for discussing product transactions, shooting locations, working/learning/networking opps, etc.

Personally, when I needed broad-based information, I usually went to POTN or occasionally FM. When I wanted local/regional perspectives of any type, I hit the Texas forum. They each had their purpose - but now one is gone... :(

Are they only dedicated to Canon or Nikon as well? We've been just discussing the lack of a good Nikon forums on the web
