I find meters cumbersome and impractical.

I sold mine because I just did not use it, not my shooting style. :-)

So is it worth he jump and why?

I am considering selling my 5dc and one of my 7d's and trading in for a 5d mark II

I am heavily into portrait photography.

So those of you that upgraded, will this be a positive step?

(the basic functions of the 5d when compared to the 7d do bother me).

Yes. I made the jump from 5dc to 5dii and I've enjoyed the difference.

If you're thinking portrait-wise, the IQ will not be that much different. IQ from 5dc and 5dii is negligible at best IMO, but the extra resolution might come in handy for you if you're printing large, or cropping a lot.

For myself, I like the new LCD which makes it easier to review if the shot is properly focused. I shot a lot of "insurance" pictures on the 5dc just to make sure I got the shot I wanted.

The added resolution is both a blessing and a curse. Being able to crop with less image degradation is a huge plus for me. The big 25mb files, however, is starting to put a slight strain on my machine, but not that much.

External speedlite control is also an excellent feature. With my 580EXII, it's easier to control the flash from the 5dii's menu.

Based on what i know of your situation, it's a good step forward. You're not going to shell out extra money since you're just selling the 5dc and one 7d to get the 5dii, so that takes the extra cost out of the equation. Please note that i said "good step forward", not a huge leap.

Hope that helps.

It's worth it if you want a newer camera, nice LCD, more crop ability, video capability, micro-adjust.

I was thinking about offering a trade on here, within my local area.

But having never used the forums for a trade or sale, I have a little trepidation.

Doing it that way would stop me giving Ebay a cut so to speak. :-)

Micro AF adjust and sensor cleaning are probably the two biggest items that make the 5DmkII worth it in terms of a stills camera.

my 5Dc seems to be a 1/3rd to 2/3rd more sensitive, at the same ISO.

if you won't shoot video, don't need the extra resolution (and there are plenty of happy D700 shooters), and don't need clean shots @ 3200 ISO, i might suggest to stay w/ the 5Dc and invest in some lighting gear or lenses, depending on need.

Recently went from a 5d to a mk11 to pair with the 7D. was awesomely happy with the 5D IQ etc, the only reason I changed was that as I wear reading glasses. On the mk11 (as with the 7D) I can quickly change menu & camera settings from the rear screen without putting my glasses on. I couldn't do that with the 5D via the rear screen or top lcd.

A small point to some, but a big difference in the field for quick & easy changes.

Other benefits of a more simliar menu layout and compatible batteries is a bonus.

Having had the 5Dc for a few weeks and yesterday receiving the 5D2... The jump IS worth it.

The LCD alone is worth it for me... Quick control menu, better button layout, microadjust, sealing, higher ISO capability, more cropability (higher MP), live view, video, etc... Worth it in every way.

Yes and no. Depending what you want. I don't feel the 5d2 IQ is superior to the 5dc. In fact, many felt that the 5d2's images are plasticky. <shrug>.
If you need the features, yup by all means.

If you are not in a rush, I'd wait it out. Just to see what the mkIII will be. If anything, it will drive the 5d2's prices down.

if you got the mo, get it. The 5Dc is a VERY nice camera already. Since they go for 1000 dollars nowadays, i'd hold onto it as use it as a daily camera instead.

I liked the live view and micro adjust. I'm not a video guy so it wasn't worth it for me.
