Canadian Mail Strike!

Watch delivery methods in what you order!

Snail-mail is shut down in Canada.

Best,

Canada.... Canada Post is on strike. No mail delivery. But you still have to pay bills.

it's not a full all-out strike (yet)
you can still mail stuff... it will still get processed... it will still get delivered... but they have 'blackouts' where certain areas will go out for a day, etc... so as of right now, you might experiment delays, and the mailguy told me this morning that XpressPost packages are business as usual and shouldn't be impacted as much as the regular mail

Thanks. However, if I were ordering stuff I would usually have delivered by mail, I would choose courier delivery BUT still no UPS due to charges I have experienced.
Best

Cdn Guvmint says that mail is greatly reduced (due to strike?)...so they will start delivering only 3 times a week.
So...if I were ordering camera gear, I would choose courier delivery.
Hope this helps

Well--I'm caught in this too.
Time will tell whether the delivery takes longer with the strike. Don't expect a speedy solution. After all they were accused of reacting too quickly with Air Canada's strike.
Feel sorry for the workers affected by labour negotiation.

ps Neither Air Canada nor Canada Post are owned by the Guvmint.

Um ... Canada Post is a Crown Corporation and by definition owned by the federal government.

Thanks. I was wrong, and appreciate you setting me right!

But they own Purolator, but don't know how this affects us in the strike.

Oh, I didn't know that... Well I do recall having to pay ~$40 just to ship a 50 1.4 to Toronto the other day when normally through Canada Post it'd cost roughly 10 bucks... And of course I must pay all the bills online now...

Government legislation will get the Canadian Postal Workers back to work.
But if they all schedule vacation at once then we're euchred. 7 weeks vacation? Why didn't I become a postman? :( 15 days sick leave per year too.
I haven't walked a mile in their shoes, but somehow that seems like a lot.

It would have cost me $9.66 to ship a 2lb. package from Minneapolis, USA to Calgary via US Postal Service >>> Canada Post.

Same parcel would cost $49 on Fed Ex. :(

I ended up selling to a US buyer after waiting out the strike for a week.

Well I ordered a Sigma 50 1.4 the other day... told the US seller to not use USPS because of the strike, so I was thinking hmm... which company should I use? Fedex ran ~$60, UPS ran ~$38, so we opted for UPS...

So I get it yesterday at the door, only to find that I was slammed $126 of brokerage fees. Hmph -.-
