I was out checking on the osprey nests yesterday afternoon when a guy drove by, then reversed back to where I was stood. Wants a natter, I thought, happens all the time. Anyway, after a short chat he says to me "On condition you keep the location to yourself I will take you to see four Horned Owls on my property." Apparently a couple of years ago he invited some local naturalists to see them, but it didn't turn out too well as they stressed out the birds somewhat, hence his request for secrecy. Of course I jumped at this opportunity. It was on the way to the location when I saw the Spotted Sandpiper, a first for me.
The landowner has invited me to come up any time and told me the owls are there every year, again with an invite for anytime.
So, after a short visit yesterday and another this morning, I have decided to leave them in peace and, hopefully, see them again next year.
With getting as lucky as that I think I should go and buy a lottery ticket.

It's nice to run into strangers like this isn't it? And good for you for not wearing out your welcome with the property owner and the Owls. Great series and I wish you luck in future visits.

Lucky you, Ray. But, it was still up to you to get the shots, and you came through.

Wow---that's cool. Daytime flight shots of wild GHOs---not easy to get!

Are the owls actually nesting in/on that structure, or are they in the woods but just like roosting there?

Many thanks for your comments Duane. Folks often stop to chat when I'm out, and I always have time for that.

Yeah, I couldn't believe my luck to get the in flights, a bonus for sure. From what the land owner was saying I think the owls nest there in the structure every year.
