Fantastic shots. Those riders are animals.

The one of Gee is great. Love the motion blur in the background and how sharp the rider looks.

What lens did you use for these shots? Why not narrower DOF?

The video showed the texture of the course much better than the images.

Awesome Job! I love the 5th one down, I think his body position is so good down that ramp.

If you don't mind me asking, how did you end up working for VitalMTB?

That video was shot all over the place.... these photos were shot just at the Red bull rock garden...

Narrow DOF?

DOF only works well on sports when you're using a HUGE lens like a 70-200 f/2.8 or a 300mm 2.8 or 4.....

When shooting with a 24-70mm 2.8 (which these were shot at) ISO 1000, the DOF will not blur the background... I could have easily sat all day on the fire road and with my 70-200 wide open to get some good Bokeh, but that's just boring and Lazy.... Sponsors want to see the crowds, the rocks, the trails, the atmosphere of the riders...

Sometimes as photographers we have to let those bad habits go.... have fun with it!

Let me guess...the focus point on the far right of your sensor is your favorite? :D

JK. It's hard to get wider shots that work, but these are nice.

is 5 and 7 shot with a flash? they look great!

I would say try and use a shallower DOF to separate your rider from the background
