are there any photographers here that have had gallery shows (whether group or solo)? Care to share your experiences? What was it like for you personally? What things should others be prepared for, be aware of, or consider?

Care to share some of your works that were featured and discuss them?

I have. I have been in large group shows and one man exhibits. Its a ton of hard work (getting the work ready) Its also expensive. You should exhibit work that all works well together. The work should have a nice flow that leads the viewer from one piece to the next. Galleries are getting more % wise then they were just a few years ago so price accordingly.

The openings are usually a blast but be prepared to talk in depth about the work. Its very hard to get into reputable galleries and the gallery needs to see some kind of finical gain on their part to first give you a show.

But again its a blast but its a TON of really hard work. Cutting mats and framing are a real ****. Getting the work to the gallery if its a big show are you have really big pieces can be a challenge. Think that its going to cost more and take longer than what you originally plan.

thanks so much for the reply and congrats on the show! I definitely want to learn more about participating in shows. Anyone else have experiences to share?
