o: Petal hood? But the front element rotates.

So it won't fit?

A couple of my 55-250mm shots. I love this lens!

Wow! Very nice pictures up there. I'm meeting up with someone to get this lens for $150. I want to use it at the race track.

It'll fit but I don't think you'll benefit much from it in terms of shielding direct light. When you spin the zoom or focus ring, the petal hood will just rotate with it and thus become unaligned. You'd be better off with one of the cup-looking ones, something like an ET-60 which was specifically designed for the lens.

Really amazing pictures btw, Donald. I almost can't believe that they were taken with the 55-250, so crisp!

haha. How you manage to hide a dslr and 55-250 in your pants? My pants aren't big enough to fit a lens alone. Pictures are nice and clear though. How far were you and was it difficult shooting handheld?

Was a joke, i actually had the body and two lenses in my bag and cover it with a shirt.
About 48 fts away. With a 60D wasn't that difficult due to it's display. The IS did a good job too.

Moon shot taken tonight, hand held using the 55-250 IS. Soft but still amazing that it could pull off a shot like this. The IS really does well I think - no crop.

Hi,
I've had the 55-250 IS for a couple of months now and I'm really pleased with it. I finally seem to be getting the sharp images that everyone else shoots.
Shot these 2 at Colchester Zoo . The tiger is cropped and a little saturation added in PP as it was a dull day.
Monkey is cropped a bit but no more PP was needed.
Hope these are good enough for this wicked thread you have all created:)

This lens is very capable of taking sharp and detailed moon shots. I think the absurdly high aperture number that you used, caused the softness. This lens is at it's sharpest at f/5.6. ;)
