Add to than a non-rotating front element, full manual focus, much better build, and there is no comparison. The only drawback is that it is much heavier than the 55-250. I own both, and still prefer the Tamron.

For me there isn't much difference between 250 and 300mm. If I had tried them side by side at the time I would have not bought the Tamron in that regard. Except for that I'm glad to have it and I think you will like it as well.

I couldn't believe how sharp they were when I loaded them on my computer and zoomed in. You could see every hair on his body, yet the background had a very attractive blur or bokeh to it. Color was also incredible! In short...go with the tamron! I'll say go if 70-200 F4 on-IS is still expensive and you need 300mm instead of 200mm at the long end. Old Site
