Dear people of the POTN

I (as a european) will be going to San Fransisco in a few weeks, and ofcourse I will be
taking my camera along, I have read a lot of threads here about lawsuits and rules etc.
what are the do's and don'ts of photography in SFO ?

Don't worry, the Yankees are lots more nicer in the State than those touring in overseas :D

I'll boil it down to the main points most people will run into.

-You can take a picture of anyone anytime as long as there is no reasonable expectation of privacy (like a bathroom)
-The only time someone can stop you from taking a photo is if you are on their property. But you can take a picture of ANYTHING inside or on their property from a public street or area.
-No one can EVER take your gear or tell you to destroy files without a court order (as long as you weren't committing a crime)

You won't need to worry. San Francisco is a tourist mecca. There are cameras everywhere. It's an amazing place.

Snap away, but remember to get pictures of people in everyday life. The bridge, Alcatraz, etc. are must-see, but also the little shops and the people are really neat. Street performers, sea lions, cable cars, etc.

Eat at The Stinking Rose.
