true. but I need the camera in hand today to call, right?

I didn't when I placed my order. They asked for the serial but I didn't have it because it was in shipment. They didn't seem to have a problem. I think they care more about the model of the camera than the serial due to the fact they have to properly account for the costs involved in the pre-paid label they give you. I could be wrong, though.

hmmm. thanks for the info. I was considering a 50D until just now. For only about $300 more I can get a 7D, so I think that's a no-brainer. I wish they had 50D's in stock though.

so to be clear, I buy an A80 off craigslist for $15 and I get a 7D for $1087?

I found a Sure Shot 60Zoom after searching through a few thrift stores over a lunch hour. Paid $5 for it, as I recall. Chicago should have plenty of places to pick up a cheap P&S.

To those who had their cameras shipped already by CLP, did you guys get a confirmation call from Canon before that? The last time I ordered from CLP they called me a day after I ordered to confirm my order then only they'll shipped it.

I need the camera as soon as possible and I don't want to waste time waiting for them just to confirm my order before shipping it.

I forgot my credit card I want to use at home, of all things. How long do lots of 300+ usually last?

At least another day or two probably. The reports yesterday were that they had 400 7D's and now today they're saying they have about 340 remaining. So only about 60 went yesterday. Even if 150 go today, you're still looking at 190 remaining in stock.

Does anyone know if the 5D classic is available through CLP??

Fligi7 wrote in post #12603671 (external link)
Wait, what's the CLP program? What bodies do they offer? What can I trade in? How does this work? Is the PS3 in the program? What about the Nikon D300? Can I trade in my broken Vivitar strap?

Please read the first post.

It is. Get the 7d. I would if I hadn't picked up a 50d already. Actually, I would have picked up the 7d anyway since that's what I originally wanted and waited months for. However, I also just purchased a 70-200 IS MK2. That's what broke the camel's back.

Through the CLP, you can get a 50d for around $560. $1090 for a 7d. That's a $500+ difference. You're comparing new vs refurbished--that's hardly a valid comparison. 50d's (along with T2i's) are bound to come back in stock again--just takes patience.

all of that is true. However, the 7D has video which is a big plus. Also 19AF points and a larger sensor. It's newer and will have a higher resale value if I ever go FF. So it's just stuff to think about.

It's half the price. That's like comparing the 5d (which goes for $1100 used) and the 5d2 (around $2300 used). Video is of little consequence to many photographers. MA and liveview mode are pretty important, so the two bodies are fairly interchangeable unless you're a sports shooter.

The 50D has pretty much hit that "sweet-spot" price point where it's already been supplemented/replaced in the Canon lineup (60d)--and the price isn't likely to fall much in the following 12-24 month period. The 7D meanwhile, can very easily drop in value should the 7d2 be released soon. Its value at that point could easily drop to the $800-$1000 range. As a monetary investment, the 50D would likely be the better buy--it will hold its value, whereas the 7D may very well plummet in September or next March.
