Vagabond II - lithium battery option?

I recently sold a Vagabond-II that has been sitting in storage a while. Turned out the battery was dead so I returned the money.

Since I now have to replace the battery, I began thinking about options to the heavy sealed lead-acid battery.

Can I switch to a lighter lithium-ion battery with the same general output specs?

I don't think its going to work.

Sell is as it is, make sure you put it on your ad and just take off $100 from your previous selling price.
I sold my Vagabond 1 for $160 after replacing the battery on CL - but I could have sold it between $75-100 with or without the dead battery.

Not at the moment. The vagabond II lithium is reported to be in development however there is no ETA for when it will be released.

You can use lithium batteries just like lead acid batteries. Don't know the other tehcnical stuff in vagabond, but any inverter can be used with lithium batteries if the specs of the battery is in the range of what the inverter supports.

I don't believe this is true. I inquired of Alien Bees tech support whether I could use a 300W pure sine wave inverter with the Vagabond Mini Lithium battery. I was told in no uncertain terms that not only would this not work but that the combination was potentially a fire/explosion hazard. The battery in the VML is engineered to tolerate the current demands of a 120W inverter. A larger inverter with a greater current draw would result in overheating within the battery. There is a protection circuit in the battery that should disconnect it from the load should an overheat/overdraw situation arise.

I think the answer to the OP's question is, "it depends". You need to know the maximum current draw of the inverter you're planning to use as well as the current supply characteristics of the lithium battery you intend to connect to it.

The charger voltages need to be similar. I do not know the specs of the two batteries.

Sell it for what you can get for it and get the cheaper VML Pretty much just as good as the II, cheaper and WAY smaller and lighter!

There is probably a Lithium battery that will meet the specs of the Vagabond II inverter.
It will probably cost a lot of money and require a charger that also will cost a lot of money.

There are also NiMH batteries that will work. Again, it depends on the battery spec relative to the inverter spec and then there is a need for a charger.

SAL batteries are relatively cheap, work for the intended purpose and are easy to acquire. Unless you know an electrical engineer, or have great faith in the sales person at the battery supplier, just sell the Vag II and get the VML.
