I live in Newport News, the location of one of Canon's repair facility.

The news just broadcast a story about a fire in the camera/computer repair lab, to the tune of $1M worth of cameras and computers in for repair and bench equipment.

It'll be interesting to see how the story morphs over the next couple of days.

Just thought some here might be interested.

I am sure they have insurance and anyone who had their camera damaged would get a refurbished replacement.

The fire, in the 12000 block of Canon Boulevard, was reported at 3:43 a.m. and was contained to an office area containing about 100 work stations. Barrick said the work area included computers, electronic equipment and equipment used to repair cameras

One would have to assume that where there is equipment to repair cameras, there would be cameras to repair.

A bit more detail is available on the web-site of a local TV station:

http://www.wvec.com …port-News--124275849.html (external link)

This still doesn't have all the detail that was provided in the on-air story .... which seemed to indicate that there were actually cameras and computers in that area either awaiting repair or in the process of being repaired.

But, then again, I might have mis-understood what I think I heard.

And if it didn't get there yet, the fire's out so no worries...

If you the sender and shipped with FedEx (probably UPS too) you can call 1-800-GOFEDEX and tell them to reroute the shipment (doesn't work 100%, but worth a try)
