Evening everyone.

Yesterday I tried shooting some video from my 7D for the first time and when I got back and downloaded the videos to my computer, Windows media player would not show the movies? Just a black screen.

Can anyone recommend a software that can playback and edit 7D videos so I can have a look at them.

Thank you.

Hm... What version Windows are you running? XP? I know Windows 7's WMP can play the movies just fine. I hope you're not running Vista... but if you are... my condolences to you. :p

If you're on XP, Quicktime should be able to do playback. I use Roxio for editing (which sucks) but it's sufficient for what I do.

Yes, I can play just about any other videos on WMP. I am running windows 7 with the lates version of wmp and all I see is a black window. I can see the player indicator bar moving forward and I can pause the player there is just no video in the window showing?

You might try downloading software from Canon. I have a Mac and use Final Cut Pro for editing. Canon supplies software (which I downloaded and am using) to be able to read their codec properly on your system so you can view edit etc. Here's the link:
