I joined to the club I received my new toy. I was debating between the 35 and 50 and ended up with this because of the macro. I didn't have anything to shoot other than some test shot to make sure the lens is OK.
I bought the precision focusing screen and used the focus confirmation but I wasn't 100% happy with the result. I did focus test with the 5D MKII and I had to dial in +15 MA and now the focus/confirmation is spot on with the center focus point. This makes the MF much easier especially with the distance shoots. With close shots I can rely on the focusing screen and my eyes...

So far what I see is that the lens is insanely sharp and has great contrast even wide open through the whole frame. I will try to shot some real things and post it but the weather is not helping we have sandstorms every day. Maybe tomorrow...

Nothing special just took a picture of a random guy at the beach (can't take picture of women). This lens is sharp...

Hi guys...
I'm thinking to buy this lens over the Planar 50 1.4 ZE,... for better quality.
But I heard it doesn't have weatherseals.
Have you got any problems with this issue?
Your advice please. Thanks.

None of the zeiss ZE lenses are weathersealed, but if you don't need to shoot in for example heavy rain there's no problem. They are very well built.

Anyone using this lens for wedding photography? I'm loving it so far, just questioning if the manual focus will be fast enough to capture the spur of the moment shots.

I mostly use it for detail shots during weddings.
There could always be a moment you want/need to capture where manual focus just isn't fast enough (for me).

i've used several 50mm lenses: sigma 50mm f1.4, canon 50mm f1.8 II, canon 50mm f1.4, and this lens. this lens is the least bright, but i love the most. color rendering is very nice, and very easy to process.

These were just some flowers on my front porch. Taken wide open, I believe.
