^Nice shots from your ride today Tony. I like how you parked your bike next to price board.

Heh! Ways to save money:)!

Yep. Its from how air compresses. A small percent of air lost will be a dramatic change in pressure. The higher the pressure the tire, the greater the change will be from the same percentage lost. Normally tires will lose air and pressure, but they shouldnt flatten out with in a week. You should only need to top off the pressure most of the time. If you do get a really flat tire after a week, you have a small sized leak, which 'shouldnt' be normal ;)

Yeah, I mean they still held their shape, it's just when I started filling them up the actual pressure was extremely low, like under 20 psi and these tires run at 110-120psi.

OK, a last tidbit from today, and then some photography discussion!

As I was heading home, I saw this "different" flag across the street, and since I was on my bike it was easy for me to get over and take a few shots!:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/135921190/original.jpg

I figured some folks might like a "closer" look so I did this very close crop:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/135921097/original.jpg

Now on to serious matters!

One of the things we outdoors shooters have to often wrestle with is when the lighting is not in our favor, and especially bad is conditions like today when it was the end of the day and the low sun light was making the sky bright but was doing the foreground no favors!

For instance, the old brick mailbox thingy -- I started out with an "Expose To The Right" approach with a slow enought shutter speed to get a nice foreground, but check out the sky:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/image/135923058/original.jpg

I had to pull the Exposure slider back by two stops in Lightroom before there were no more blown highlights!

I messed with it a lot and finally came up with this (pulling the LR Blue Luminance slider way back helped the sky but I'm still not happy with it):

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/135922726/original.jpg

As is often the case, I did some bracketing with my shutter speed and so the best I could come up with by going a bit faster was this:

IMAGE: http://www.pbase.com/tonylong/image/135922725/original.jpg

And then finally a bit more faster still:

(DUPLICATE IMAGE)

Again, thanks to the Blue Luminance for the sky! Otherwise even the last one would have been lousy!

I think I like the last one the best, but note that this was not died-in-the-wool ETTR!

Sometimes I wish I could just leave the sky all blank whitish/gray but I just hate that!

And, this is a challenge we face as biking photographers -- either we have to plan our excursions very carefully for the perfect time of day or, well...

I know that when I'm aware of certain conditions I do plan for "that time", but when you combine the adventure of biking with the craft of photography, well, it doesn't always work that way:)!

Talk to ya all later!

^I agree with you on having crappy outdoor lighting. It's something we can't help. I usually ETTR as much as I can but, when in LR I pull back on the recovery silder for the highlights and try to use fill light on the dark areas. Anyways, it looks like it worked well for you Tony.

Well, it took a bunch of fiddling. I'm a big fan for a liberal use of Fill Light but sometimes it just comes out too flat. Oh well...at least I got one or two usable ones out of that set!

And, it was great being a Biking Photog:)!

Ahhhh, that has got to suck. The tube is only 10 minutes walk from the apartment, so come rain/sun/snow, we always go into work. Plus less stress from not driving in psycho traffic, can have a pint in town, and no need to pay for parking/fuel/wear & tear on the car.

I have a problem with those bikes. I'm sort of a germaphobe and just putting my hands on the grips would make me pull out the hand sanitizer.:lol:

SISSY! I guess working in a hospital will only escalate that

Couldnt agree more Tony. I have a few shots from Friday that I'm not happy with. It was a completely grey sky. Took some shots and cant do anything with the sky even if i pull back. So I'm heading out today to redo the shot. It should be much better as it will be sunny versus the fog and clouds from Friday.

Tony!:

I think its time we have this thread moved and re-titled. This way we dont have to start a new one from scratch. The first post in this thread could be changed up a bit to introduce itself better. Or we could start a new thread completely. We had some titles a few pages ago. I think its time to get the new thread going before its too late.
