never mind, Amazon is going to cut all ties with California affiliates therefore they will not be forced to collect tax from customers.

Jun 30, 2011 00:57 | #18 Oh my God! They killed Ken Rockwell! One [Amazon] affiliate, Ken Rockwell of San Diego, the owner of a 12-year-old photography website, said he planned to move out of state. "Will it be Las Vegas or Scottsdale or Ensenada?" he said. "It's a question of where, not if."

Exactly. And who does this hurt? CA businesses who sell through Amazon, since they won't be able to anymore. Which then ultimately hurts state tax revenue since Amazon is a very popular portal to sales worldwide/nationwide.

FYI--any CA business affiliate currently selling through Amazon already collects sales tax on items shipped to CA. Sigh--nothing new to see here in a bankrupt state--same old tricks that backfire. If only we had another Ronnie rather than Moonbeam at the helm. Never mind again, Amazon would still have their foot in California...crafty politicians

Newegg.com, B&H Photo, etc.. WE are supposed to keep track and pay sales tax at the end of the year. This law is in effect but I can pretty much guarantee that the majority do not pay sales tax on online purchases since you know.. there's no real way of the state finding out. I can see following the law if you're a business and spend tens of thousands of dollars online every year that you have to report but for the rest of us? Don't sweat it. ---------------

If CA wants out of state retailers to collect sales tax for them, they should set it up so it is much less painful for the retailer... better yet, transparent. I would be very interested to hear how the retailers are managing this. CA is so screwed up, I bet many less than trustworthy retailers could pocket much of those funds and CA would never be the wiser. Randy...
