Be calm, everything will be alright. Especially once you have that lens :)

just get the 24-70mm. you'll enjoy the f/2.8, plus you don't need IS at this range.

Awesome! I can't wait until I get mine. T- 1 day!!!

I do have one question for "The Brick" owners. Do you use the Canon lens hood or do people like to get an aftermarket one?

The Canon hood is included with L lenses.

The 24-70L is the better lens but you are incorrect that it cannot benefit from IS. I could very much benefit from IS for shots taken at 1/50 of a second or slower.

Just make sure the check focus accuracy at 24mm shooting at F/2.8

This was a REALLY weak point on the 7 copies of the 24-70L I had. Constantly backfocused. Hopefully, yours is fine. But I gave up on that lens.

I just picked up the 24-70 yesterday, and got it home and tested it and the focus was spot-on, no adjustments required that I have seen. Only had it for less than a day and love it already!

According to POTN insiders, the 24-70L IS has been only a few months away since 2006. LOL. Don't hold your breath!

I have been shooting with an unbranded test lens for some time now.

I'm in Canada. Isn't that weird!

well, the old 28-70 first came out in 1993, and 24-70 replaced it in 2002. now 10 years after 24-70's first intro, i guess it's time for something new.
Doesnt mean that you should hold yourself back from getting this lense. It is a great lense. new IS model probably gonna cost you around 2K. So this one is still a good buy. CheerS!
