What do you mean to better match nikon? last time I checked the canon lens line killed nikons.

i am prob talking out of my "bottom", but i cant help but get the feeling while Canon's production facility was heavily affected by the quake/tsunami, their R&D department kept working (maybe even worked over time) and Canon is counting on a big product release party to make up the missed sales?

again, i could be talking out of my "bottom" on this, but I read the Nikkor G glasses are 1 gen ahead of competing Canon L glasses (newer coating and newer material?), other than the 70-200 F/4 IS L and 70-200 F/2.8 IS II L? ie 24-70 G vs 24-70 L, 24-1200 G vs 24-105 L etc

I'll bet that lens did go fast, if they had any in stock. Last time I saw them in stock was about a week ago and I got one about a week before that. They usually came and went within an hour, even at the $1999 price.
I'd been watching the refurbs a lot this week for another lens, the 35L, but it never showed up.
Now the 5D Mark II is a different matter. It puzzled me that they had so many of them that it would be for sale for days on end. Seems like they came in waves.
But for most of us, I'd say the 70-200 price was a Deal that Never Was, since it never seemed to be in stock.

I have also been waiting for the 35L to come in stock. Have not seen it for 3 weeks now.
