(had to clone out reflections from the lights in his glasses, that was kind of a pain but not a dealbreaker)

Not sure whether this result belongs in the G&N section or actually violates the posting rules!

I can't afford studio lighting so I bought this cheap (I think it was $30) lightset at Home Depot or something - wait, I mean, I didn't buy it intending to use it for photos - I bought it to use like, as a light at home. lol. but the day of this shoot, I decided to bring it along and see what I could do. Was pretty happy with its effect.

If it's the one like mine, it's hella useful - it's switch lets you turn on 2 of the heads, the other 3, or all 5. I load up 2 with high output daylight spectrum CF's, the other 3 with ordinary CF's, and depending on whether I need really white/blue light or softer yellow light, I can make my choices. Directing the heads towards reflectors on either side of the subject is useful. The only downside is that I need a weight for the base. If all 5 are pointed in one direction, it will tip over.

Living room "studio" and my daughter...

Key light was small 10" reflector with diffusion fabric, gridded strip boxes for rim light, EL Octa for on axis fill behind me, gridded blue gel speedlight onto white foamcore for background.

I didn't find one like it on homedpot.com, but this one from Amazon/Target looks to be pretty much the same: http://www.amazon.com …p-CFL-Bulbs/dp/B0038Z64W2 (external link)

yeah that's the one. I guess the price was off a tad. Still cheap when talking about lighting.
