You have lots of options. Your bank that you do your personal banking with could probably set you up with a merchant account.

Even Costco does it.

I do squareup for in-person transactions. Works extremely well, especially if you have an iPhone or Android phone. There is also no up-front cost at all so you only pay for it when you use it.

Paypal is probably going to be the only worthwhile option unless you are doing a sustained transaction volume. You can try 2checkout but it will cost more then Paypal and they might even reject you if you only plan to use it here and there. The same for most other solutions which many charge application + monthly or yearly + transaction + gateway fees and hold a reserve.

Intuit GoPayment will be your best option (IMHO)

If it is going to be very infrequent, look at Square (external link). I just moved over to Intuit GoPayment (external link) and it's worked great so far. The associated fees are cheaper than most other merchant accounts I've seen.

For in person sales, that's exactly what Square is for. You can take payments over the phone too but their cut is quite a bit higher.

Did you lose Digital Photo Professional (DPP)? Get it here (external link). Cursing at your worse-than-a-map reflector? Check out this vid! (external link)

That's one of the reasons I switched. I read an tech article about Square raising their rates above many of the other providers. One of the recommended providers here on POTN was Intuit GoPayment. Their terms were much better than what I was using and decided to switch. I had a few hiccups with Square, but have had none with Intuit. That's just my personal experiences. I'm sure others will have a different viewpoint.

Intuit's rates are pretty close to Square's. Square takes a smaller cut for keyed in cards and Intuit takes a smaller cut for swipes.
