I dont use a hood or filter on my 50 mki, but i do like the images.
Before you order have you seen this.

Personally, I find 50mm too long indoors for anything other than head & shoulder shots. The nifty is also not the best lens for kids because of the slow focus indoors. I'd pick the siggy 30 over it any day for indoor portraits, but the nifty is a good lens to have for outdoors or just a different style of portrait.
