quick question: if I will use my 85 to take passport size picture (white background), f1.8 setting is enough with my 580Ex II flash?

Without knowing some more detail, the simple answer is yes. But, why so shallow the depth of field? An aperture f/4, 5.6 or 8 would be beneficial.

I only assume f1.8...I will try f/4, 5.6 or 8 though. With that three aperture you mentioned will give me more sharp pics compare to f1.8? - sorry newbie here.

More precisely, at least for most countries, if the photo doesn't look bland and horrible then it WILL get denied :D

Ditto that. You will need the whole face in focus for the State Department to accept the image.
