99% of the time, if the only thing they ask when they email you is "is the item still for sale" it's a scam. I don't even reply to messages that only ask that.

You think he actually sent it? Really?

And why would you send your item before the check clears?

Sometimes I like to have a little fun with scammers. Some scammers will mail you a fake cashier's check and tell you to cash it. Thing is, the check will bounce after a few days (after you shipped it out) and you'll be out your money AND your item.

I convinced this one guy to UPS Next Day Early AM (VERY EXPENSIVE) me his check to an address I pulled off Family Guy.

Peter Griffin
31 Spooner St.
Quahog, RI 02901

The next day, he asked if I received it and I told him no and to send me another one. He told me, OK NO PROBLEM I SEND YOU ANOTHER ONE. Anyone that goes "OK NO PROBLEM" after "losing" a $4000 cashier's check is bound to be a scammer. I ended up costing this guy ~$100 in UPS fees :D My little tribute to boost our economy :)

If it was a fake check, he could easily have sent another one. A cashier's check is supposed to be like actual cash since it's directly from the bank. So once you have a cashier's everything is a-ok - supposedly.

And to the OP, "mildly suspicious"? Incredibly suspicious if you ask me.

I don't sell a lot on craigslist. In fact, this is the first thing I have tried to sell there. Hence the thread...

I've found my answer and am moving on from that particular "buyer."

Have sold a few things on craig's list, but instruct potential purchasers to CALL me. I don't respond to emails. Those are usually spam where I live.

If you look at the email sent through Craigslist carefully, you will notice you can now flag email originators as spammers too. Please do this and help improve the service for everyone.

But what about the poor guy who really is a traveling minister who is currently in Nigeria and really does have a son studying at Cambridge?

"Please Father, I've been studying night and day for the last six months." "For my birthday, could you please send me an item?" "It's all I've ever wanted."

Replacing my Canon 7D, Tokina 12-24mm, Canon 17-55mm, Sigma 30mm f/1.4, 85mm f/1.4, and 150-500mm with a Panasonic Lumix FZ1000. I still have the 17-55 and the 30 available for sale.

That only worked once. :p
