Is this a decent price on this 7D package from Best Buy?

I'm starting a 2 year Photography Associates Degree program this fall. Is this a decent set-up and price for this package? The item is now Sold Out, but I did get my order in. I still have time to change my mind, but I'm thinking this is a pretty good deal. Canon also donated $35,000 in lenses to the photography program I will be in, so I will be able to take advantage of using them some also.

It seems like it, because you could always sell the 28-135 for about $225, and the 70-300 for $400 or so, which would leave you with a camera that cost you about 1700.

But.....hang on.

I'd say skip the Best Buy deal, especially if they are going to charge you a couple hundred bucks in sales tax.

By the way: Beach Camera is totally reliable. Excellent customer service.

If you will have access to all those lenses that canon donated save the extra money and buy the body only. You will find that those lenses are good but not nearly as good as the L's

With the kind of money you have going there, maybe you should stretch out just a little more for the 5DII. It's the best portrait camera in the world (well, in my opinion, and in the Canon/Nikon categories).

Obviously there are cameras in the tens of thousands for the fashion industry, but the 5DII is such a good camera, and paired with the nice kit lens it usually comes with (24-105, I think), it's a nice setup.

If you can find the camera in stock at a best buy store you can use the 10 or 12 percent off coupon they offer. (Either if you are a silver premier reward zone member or in the mail address change packet you can find at the post office).

Warrior17, I would suggest that you go the Canon refurbished website and buy a refurbished Canon 7d for a net price of $1087 plus tax if you use CLP(Canon Loyalty program, (1-866-443-8002)) call for details and save your hard earned money and purchase one of the excellent Canon "L" lens with the rest of your money. Lowepro - Slingshot 202 AW isn't all that great of a bag. With the 70-300mm, it might be a very tight fit.
The filter is junk. Do not buy any RF filters. I have bought some to play with and see how bad they are. Not worth the money. They are cheap but cheap for a reason.

It's okay for a retail outlet, as has been pointed out you can do better online.

I'd point out that if your photography course is going to take you anywhere near landscapes or other wide angle work the 28-135mm lens is a problem, at the wide end it's equivalent to 45mm on a FF/35mm camera.

I agree with purchasing a Canon Refurb. If you can get a broken Canon camera of any kind try to get a 7D through the Canon Loyalty Program. I paid $1085 (USD) plus $24 bucks shipping and California State Sales Tax (you would pay your sales tax at Best buy for the entire kit).

I would use the extra money saved to pick up a pair of Tamron lenses for the 7D. 17-50mm f/2.8 VC and the Tamron 70-300mm f/4-5.6 VC which would total about $2183 with tax on the 7D.

If you have money left over, I would get the following:

Canon 430EXii or a used 430EX flash (I just got a used 430EX for $165 on eBay)

Off camera sync cord

The camera flip model is better than the flash flip model.

A friend of mine got one 2 weeks ago. I think te key is to call every other day or so.
