Black Rapid Strap Damaging the Camera?

My apologies if this has been covered - I did a quick search and found nothing.

I read a review somewhere where an owner of a Black Rapid strap was unhappy because the metal carbiner and/or swivel was hitting the bottom of their camera, leaving marks.

I have a RS-5, and I love it. But I can't really see this thing doing any damage.

Anyone leaving marks on the bottom of the camera with a Black Rapid strap?

I have the RS7 and no issues to date.. but i will keep an I open for it.

I think there was some concern about the knurled finish on the clip lock barrel possibly scratching the bottom or edge of the camera. I recently upgraded my R-Straps and noticed that the currently shipping product has a smooth finish on the lock barrel, so that may alleviate that concern.

I also have the RS-7 with the connectR-2 and fastenR3 (which came as a set when i purchased it). So far these metal parts have not scratched the bottom of my camera. When you mention scratches, did you mean while wearing the strap or while storing it? Bc the only time i worry about scratches is when i store the camera. I simply wrap the strap part and rest it against the clip to prevent metal rub.

The damage was supposed to be while attached to camera.

I put a little gaffers tape on the corners of the swivel just in case, but I think that is unnecessary.

ha...good pt!! I have a similar strap and the bottoms my 50, 60 and now 7D are all "scratchless"

I really don't mind small scuffs, personally, but I have a habit of upgrading and reselling equipment.

I would rather sell and buy a used camera that didn't have scuffs on the bottom. If I were buying, it would make me wonder how it was really treated.

My concern is more for resale potential.

My 1D3 shows a little wear on the side of the body from where it rubs agains my hip when slung. I'm not overly concerned. It's a tool, and a well used one at that!
