These were all done with Canon 5D and, of course, the 100 F/2. All had extension tubes, at least one 12, or possibly all three (12, 24, 36mm). All were lit with Qbox 24 with either Metz 58 AF or Canon 580.

Nice shots in this thread. Well done everyone!

I don't understand why this lens is much less popular than the 85L and 135L. Can someone explain?

EDIT: Sorry, I ment to post this in the 100L thread. My misstake!

i guess most people buy the macro when considering a 100mm prime and overlook this gem. i really like this lens as it sits between the 85 and the 135and can be used for the purpose of both.

All speculation but here's my thoughts.

1) The 135 is so popular because it's an "L" and from what I have seen it is one spectacular lens. Probably my next purchase.

2) The 85 1.8 is popular because the 85 1.2 L gets so much press. People realize that they can't afford it and so go for the cheaper version.

3) 85 1.8 is a good focal length for a cropped sensor. It is an equivalent of 135 35 mm.

Not typically a "butterflies" kind of shooter, but this one was having a mildly entertaining tussle with a bee, so I grabbed my camera and fired off a few.

Given it a try using extension tubes, natural light.
