Which would be a better lens if you can only have one?

I have the 28-135. I'm not thrilled with it. It's okay....nothing special.

The 55-250 isn't what most would consider a walkaround lens, but I had it before and love using it for portraits, sports, etc. It's a great lens.

Target has it for $149, and I was thinking of selling this 28-135 and getting the 55-250, using it as my only lens for a few weeks until I can save up for the 18-55is.

What are your thoughts on this? The 55-250 is only $149 until Saturday, and then it goes back to $299. I realize it can be had much cheaper online, but not any cheaper than Target's 149.

I can't just go out and buy it. I'd have to ditch the 28-135 first (payday isn't for another ten days, and the 55-250 sale will be over in two days).

Any thoughts?

Thanks

Thank you. bw!

So I guess you're sayin you'll have to pay $299 for the 55-250 because you can't buy the one at Target now for $149?...because you don't get paid in ten days? Anyway...refurb's at Adorama are $199 everyday..unless you can sell the 28-135 for $149? now and get the Target deal

Ah! I like the 55-250. I recommend it. I'm guessing you don't want to hold a charge on your card for the 10 days huh?
I'd hold the charge on a card, then pay it off when you sell the lens. Save money in the long run you know?

EDIT: I meant sell, not get

You should just borrow money from a family or a friend.

Okay...it's not totally about the money. I'm just trying to juggle crap without spending any more money than necessary. Grass is greener kind of thing.

Thank you. bw!

I just looked on line and in their weekly ad. The price is $249. Where are you seeing $149?

I'd take the 55-250IS + 18-55IS any day over the 28-135..You could probably find both for @$300....ditch (sell) the 28-135 and save some pennies

first of all if your 28-135 is in good condition i wouldnt let it go for less than 200

im selling mine in new condition for 250. dont ditch a lens just because its "ok" its still a really solid lens and not cheap considering what you are looking at for an alternative. take your time and get a good amount for your 28-135

They're getting cheaper because a mark II is out.

I can't tell the difference between the mark I and the mark II, but maybe you can.

Thank you. bw!

the used selling price of the 28-135mm is way more than $150...you should be able to easily get both the 18-55IS and a 55-250IS if you're snagging the 55-250 for $149....

I can get close, but probably not an even swap.

The 28-135 generally (on this website) goes for about 225. Not sure about ebay, but they take a bigger cut these days.

One big difference, the mark II will not cost $149. Apparently they made some optical changes, but other than aperture, I don't have many complaints about the nifty two-fifty.
It's your call, I'd personally buy the 55-250, and sell the 28-135 asap. In the end, you should break even. You'd just have lots of money moving around your account haha.
