First lens for a 50D

Try the Sigma 17-50 2.8 os. Excellent lens and has a three year extended guarantee. Equal in IQ to the Canon.

I agree it is an excellent lens as bought one myself. However, it is twice the price of the OP's stated budget.

Im pretty happy with the 18-135 IS. Maybe you can find a used one in your budget.


60D, Canon 18-135 IS, Sigma 10-20 hsm, 24-70 2.8 hsm, 70-200 2.8 hsm, 430EX II, and all the other stuff that goes along with it.
